Yes, the new lineup of Ring Smart Lights works with Alexa.  You can control the Ring Pathlight, Ring Steplight, Ring Floodlight, Ring Spotlight and Ring low voltage landscape lighting transformer with Alexa for voice control of your Ring Lighting.

 How does it work?

To control your Ring smart lights with Alexa you just need a compatible Alexa app and a compatible Alexa device like the Echo Show or Echo Dot. All Alexa devices are compatible with the Ring Smart Lights and connecting them to Alexa is simple. 

Once you have the smart lights installed and your Alexa device installed and setup you connect the Ring smart lights to Alexa by adding the Ring Skill in your Alexa app, and enabling the skill.

Ring Smart Light Alexa Voice Commands  

Once you have the Ring smart lights connected in the app you can control them by saying "Alexa, turn on the outdoor lights" or "Alexa, turn off the outdoor lights. "

When you are setting up your Ring smart lights in the app it allows you to name the Ring smart light with names like "backyard", "driveway" or other custom names. Whatever you name your light when setting it up is the name you will use to when turning it on or off with Alexa. If you named your Ring ;mart light "Patio" you would say “Alexa, turn on "Patio" light. 

Within the Alexa app you can also group the lights together in a group like "All Outdoor Lights" to link multiple Ring smart lights together to control them all at once. 

You can also turn on or off any of the Ring smart lights by using through the app and clicking them on or off through the app.  

Ring Smart Lights Work With Ring Security System

The entire lineup of Ring Smart lights has motion sensors built directly into the light. The motion sensors are used to trigger the light to turn it on at night but they can also be integrated into the Ring Alarm system on the Ring App to alert you when motion is detected on the smart light which can create an outdoor motion detection perimeter to for your home to alert you if someone is lurking in your yard. The motion detection will also trigger the lights to turn on which is enough to deter most criminals in the darkness.

What are the different Ring Smart Lights?

Ring Pathlight

The Ring Pathlights are battery powered landscape lights designed to be placed next to a path or walkway. They are battery powered and completely wireless so you can place them without the need to run wires.  The pathlights have built in motion detectors to turn on when motion is detected or they can be turned on using Alexa or the Ring App.

The Ring Lights connect to the wifi system through the Ring Bridge. The system requires a Ring Bridge to work but once you have it setup you can connect any of the Ring Smart Lights to it and multiple Ring Smart Lights to the Ring Bridge.

Ring Steplight

The Ring Stepight is designed to be placed on exterior steps to light up your steps at night. They are battery powered and work wirelessly so you can place them anywhere in range of the Ring Bridge. They have built in motion detection and can be controlled using Alexa or the Ring App.

Ring Spotlight

The Ring Spotlight is larger than the pathlight or steplight and is designed to provide a bright focused light that will automatically turn on when motion is detected. The light can also be controlled using Alexa or the Ring App. The spotlight is best for focused areas like at a door or window that you want to protect and ward off intruders with the automated spotlight. For protecting larger areas the Floodlight is a better choice. The Ring Spotlight is wireless and battery powered.

Ring Floodlight

The Ring Floodlight comes in both a hardwired and a battery powered version. If you have an existing floodlight and want to make it smart you should get the hardwired battery powered version as it' won’t ever require you to change the batteries. If you’re adding a Ring Floodlight and don’t have any existing wiring the Battery powered version of the Ring Floodlight is a better option.

Ring also has a hardwired smart floodlight that has a camera built in if you want to add video security to your system.

Ring Landscape Lighting Transformer
